To understand about The Battle of Lexington and Concord, you need to know a bit about the Revolutionary war.
The Revolutionary War started in 1775, and ended in 1783.The war was fought for American colony’s freedom from the British rule. King George (the “ruler” at the time), was making the colonists pay many taxes. The colonists had to pay taxes every time they bought tea, sugar, and EVEN PAPER! It was bad, Very bad, but what made the colonists even angrier was that they had no say in the British Government! They couldn’t even vote against the British government! A colonist named James Otis made up the saying, ¨No taxation without representation is Tyranny”. This meant that a ruler, (like King George) who would do things like this is unfair. In the year of 1774, the Parliament of Great Britain passed really, really, bad laws. This was after the Boston Tea Party, where a few colonists from Boston dressed up as Mohawk Native Americans and snuck aboard the Dartmouth, a British tea ship. This was all thought of by John Adams while he was in a bar called the Boston Tavern! So, they snuck aboard the Dartmouth at night, and dumped tea worth more than $1000 (which was a lot at the time) into the Boston Harbour. The colonists had to pay for the tea that got dumped. This leads us to the Intolerable Acts. During the Intolerable Acts, there was another law passed that colonists couldn’t have meetings anymore in their houses or anywhere!.Soon there was another law passed that he British Soldiers can stay in their homes! Then, the British came and tried to capture the colonists’ supplies, like gunpowder. So the colonists found out about it, That was what the Midnight Ride was all about. and that’s how war got started in Lexington.
