What are the first sports that come to your mind? Football, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball. Maybe even Mountain Bikes! But what about GOLF? Golf is an interactive sport which can be played by anybody. You don’t have to be tall to play golf like in basketball, to learn to be able to catch well when playing outfield in baseball, or be be fast in football. You just have to put a golf ball in a hole using a golf club to hit it. You may think that this is really easy. But ah, don’t be so overconfident, my readers. There are tons of obstacles along the way. And did I mention you need the least number of points in order to win? Read about how to play golf, and some useful tactics.
Tiger Woods, a professional American golfer, celebrating for his hole-in-one. He is one of the most successful golfers of all time, and one of the highest-paid athletes in history.
Obstacles in Golf In beginner courses, it’s unlikely that any of the courses would have a water hazard, meaning that there may be a big puddle that you must avoid when hitting your golf ball. However, sandtraps are very common. Pro-golf courses have either a few huge sand traps or a lot of small sand traps that are very hard to avoid. Another word used for sand traps are bunkers. Here are some obstacles in golf that can be a challenge to get out of:

Woods Shots
Getting into a Stymie. This means that you landed right in front of a tree, or an object, and you had to waste a shot to get out of the way of the tree. (The less shots you have, the less points you have)

Golf Language Translation You might be asking yourself, what does hole-in-one mean? And why do you talk about birdies in golf? Pars? Bogeys? Don’t worry. It just means how many strokes, or shots, you did in each hole. Here is a list of what hole-in-one, bogeys, or pars, mean:
Hole-In-One. This means that on your first shot, you got it inside the hole.
Eagle. Whenever you play a golf match, it will tell you how much strokes you should at least get. A Par-3 means that you should get it in the hole in 3 shots, a Par-4 means that you should hit it in 4 shots, and etc. An Eagle means that you hit it with 2 strokes under the average number of strokes you should hit. (Also known as -2) This is a good thing because you need the least number of point to be able to win.
Birdie. This means that you hit the ball with only 2 shots. It can also be known as 1 stroke under par.
Par. This means that you hit the ball with 3 shots. If you get 3 shots in Par-3, that is neutral, meaning that it’s not good or bad.
Bogey. This is one stroke over par, or 4 points, and that is bad if you are in a Par-3, because instead of getting the usual 3 strokes, you get a +1 and the more points you get, the worse it is for you. A Double Bogey is 5 strokes, A Triple Bogey is 6 strokes.
Albatross. This is very rare because this means it is 3 under par. You can’t get an albatross in a par-3 hole, and if you get it in a par-4 hole, that’s basically like a hole in one.
Anything more than 6 shots have the term as ¨Blow-Up¨ or ¨Disaster¨.

How To Play Golf
Like I explained before, you just have to put a golf ball in a hole. However, you have to do it a with a golf club. There are also a lot of choices. I mean, think about it. There are separate golf clubs each time you make a shot. The names of the clubs always end in irons. Did you know that advanced golfers can have up to ten different irons. But if you are a beginner, it is best to start with 4 different irons. If you had to choose, make sure you get this: A 3 iron A 5 iron A 7 iron A 9 iron You should also get a putter. A putter is like a golf club, except you should hit it with less power. It’s very important that you get your putter out when your ball is in the green. The green is the area that is surrounding the hole. Also, it’s better if you use the higher number irons for small distances to the hole. The farther you are, it’s more be likely for you to use a small- number iron. There are lots of names in golf that you may not know. For example, a whiff means where you miss a shot completely as you try to hit it. You might be thinking, how is that possible? When you are hitting the ball on your opening shot, there is a little stand. On the top of the stand is your golf ball. People overestimate themselves sometimes and swing it to strong and make it completely off target. Then, they must count a stroke against you. A stroke is when a golfer attempts to swing a shot on his/her golf ball. A stroke is kind of like a point. Like I told you, a point is a bad thing for you because you are trying to get the least number of points.
Imagining the Scene You are now an average golfer. You are playing against an opponent. This opponent is also an average golfer. You go in a golf course. There are 2 holes. The first hole is a Par-4 hole. That means you should get 4 shots at most for this hole. You won the coin toss, so you go first. You hit the ball. You hit a good shot, and it’s 60 ft away from the hole. Your opponent goes. His shot is 40 ft away from the hole. It’s always important that the person farthest from the hole goes next. You get another shot. You are now 10 ft away from the hole, and after a debate inside your head, you bring your putter. Your opponent swings, but the opponent did a bad shot, and is 25 ft from the hole. He goes again. He just missed the hole, and is now 9.7 ft from the hole. Now it’s your turn. After using a little bit less force you are 1.2 ft away from the hole. Your opponent has hit the ball. He is now 0.3 ft away from the hole. You try once more. You hit the ball in the hole. Your opponent does it again. Now he is in the hole. The score is now: You 4 points. Opponent 5 points.
You are now in your last hole. You use your 3 iron for this one, because it’s 250 yds away. You hit a bad shot. You are now 150 yds away from the ball. This is nothing to your opponent. He has gotten a stymie. He had hit the ball on a tree, and it bounced back. This time you get a good shot. It’s into the green but just barely. After another long debate in your head, you decide to get a putter whenever you are in the green. Your opponent, however, realizes that the flag is diagonal of his spot. He hits the ball diagonally, and is, surprisingly, 10 ft from the hole. As your opponent gets the putter, you realize that you need to brush off a leaf. So does your opponent’s ball. You tell your opponent, and he kindly tells you thank you. You both put a small marker on where your ball is, brush off the leaves, and then put the ball where the marker is, and then take off the marker. (You are allowed to this, and it’s better if you do) You get your putter and hit it. It’s now 2.1 ft away from the hole. Your opponent then hits. He just misses, and is now 0.2 ft away from the hole. It’s your turn. Your opponent’s ball is in the way. He puts a marker where the ball is, and now it’s your turn. You have to make it. After measuring the angles, and going over your head, you hit the ball, and you make it! Your opponent then hits it in the next shot. You have won, by 1 point.
An Interview with Ms. Birrer & Ms.Albano By Amber
One day, I sat down with my former 3rd grade teachers and I asked them a few questions. This was our conversation.
I asked them why they chose to be a teachers. Ms.Birrer replied that she really likes to work with kids, help them and get to know them. Ms.Albano said that there were a lot of teachers in her family. When she was little she helped them and knew she wanted to be a teacher.
Then I asked them if they were not a teacher then what would they be. Ms.Birrer had said she would be a nutritionist and a personal trainer because she is into eating healthy and exercising at the gym. Ms.Albano said she would be a flight attendant because she loves to travel and go around the world.
Then I questioned them about what would they do if one of their kids misbehaves. They both said that they would take the student aside and talk to them to help them make a better choice and fix their behavior.
I had been wondering this for a long time so I asked them what made them choose to be a 3rd grade teacher? Ms.Birrer said that she looped up with her 2nd grade class to third grade and then decided to stay because they were still young but could do more. Ms.Albano said that she used to teach high school but then there was a 3rd grade position when the 3rd grade moved to Millstone. She was asked if she wanted it, and of course she said YES!
Then for my 5th question I asked them what did they do when they have free time. Ms.Birrer said she likes to go to the gym, play with her nephew and spend time with family and friends.Ms.Albano said she likes to go out to eat, spend time with family and see new places.
Then last but not least I asked them when they get frustrated at kids what they do. Ms.Birrer said that she sometimes walks into the hallway then does a few deep breaths then goes back in and tries again.Ms.Albano says she takes deep breaths then she talks to Ms.Birrer! That day I got to spend time with my wonderful 3rd grade teachers & had a wonderful time!
Animal Extinction By: Krutarth, Nimeesh and Divyansh
Humanity The problem with some people is, they like to capture animals and kill them for no reason except for money. Yeah, POACHERS. There are poachers all around the world! So the logic in that, proves millions of animals are being captured and also near extinction because of these threats. And not only that but even people who aren't poachers can even cause its numbers to decrease. People who want the population of humans to grow or people who destroy the land to make cities and towns.
All of that can destroy a nesting ground of an animal. A certain one is the White Stork of England. According to “Wildlife Alert! The struggle to survive” they said “Humans can adapt to almost any kind of environment. But many animals can only live in certain areas.” Of course it’s not only the White Stork of England, there's more like the extremely rare Red Wolf which almost all of them live in North Carolina, or the Tasmanian Tiger, which were all sadly killed by poachers extinct a long time ago. Humans may have taken themselves a lot of steps forward but they put the earth a couple steps backwards.
“Be the change you wish to see in the world” - Mahatma Gandhi. Poachers
Poachers are people who can’t think of a better way of earn money than killing, hunting animals. There’s actually a memorial to rhinos who got killed by poachers near St. Lucia Estuary, South Africa. But some lucky animals, instead of asking their brothers and sisters for help, they took matters into their own hands and fought the poachers off or escaped. Like Lady Baltimore, a bald eagle who escaped from getting its beak sold. We should have a policy and a part of a year of when you can hunt.
How it Would be if All Animals Went Extinct
If animals go extinct there will be no zoos and circuses won't have animals and then there will be no food. Your dog or your cat won’t be alive and if you don’t have any pets, think about the squirrels who plant the trees that you need to breath or the rabbits that you magic tricks with, they are all serving you. The world we live in is run by animals. You wouldn’t be able to come home and play with your dog if it was extinct. There will be no cotton for hospitals, and some animals eat insects and they will go extinct if insects go extinct. We won't have stuff we need like milk because there are no cows. So help us stop poachers. We won't have some types of pizza or even coffee it can make companies go down like starbucks. We would not have cowboys or some types of Entertainment we won't have soft balls. We won't have winter jackets, pants, socks. Humans can go extinct also because if there were no animals there are no jackets and that will make all of humanity start a war. A war for clothes and food. So everyone, please stop thinking about yourself and the people around you, think about yourself. Extinct Animals of the Past/Causes
Animals in the past have been killed for many reasons too. Tasmanian Tigers are a great example. They were happily prancing around in North America, and then one day people started coming in. The tasmanian tiger didn’t want to harm the people, but the people had a different idea they thought the tasmanian tiger would hunt their sheep. So they shot every tasmanian tiger they found. And now because of that Tasmanian Tigers are now extinct.
Zebras By Dharma
Have you ever wondered whether a zebra's skin is black with white stripes or white with black stripes? If you have I will tell you that they have black skin and white stripes! It so hard to figure that out but scientists did their job. I think that Zebras are very interesting animals and that this is just one way they are interesting.
Habitat There are 3 types of zebras, the Grevy's zebra, Plains zebra, and Mountain zebra. Zebra’s sometimes live in grassy plains. But they can also live in forests with lots of trees. They live in a part of Africa. Its called Kenya. They mostly live north of Kenya. Other zebras live in the eastern and southern part of africa.
The Grevy’s zebra lives mostly in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya. They weigh from about 770 pounds to 990 pounds! They can run 40 miles per hour. The Grevy's zebra is about 60 inches tall!
The Cape mountain zebra lives in southern Cape. It’s the shortest zebra. Its height is at 47 inches tall. It weighs from 573 pounds to 815 pounds. The Mountain zebra is recognized from the fact that its belly is white with no stripes.
The Plains zebra lives in southern Africa. They weigh 300-320 kg. They have less stripes then the Cape Mountain zebra. They were thought to be extinct but scientists found they are still alive.
Diet Zebra eat a lot of grasses. They also eat shrubs, herbs, twigs, leaves, and bark. The grevy's zebra eats mostly grass but they can also eat fruit and leaves. They require less water than other zebras.
Birth At birth one foal is born at a time. Foal means baby zebra. Zebra’s live in family groups, each group consists of a stallion and some mares and foals. A stallion is really just a male zebra. A baby zebra is born with brownish looking stripes. A female zebra can only have one foal in their lifetime.
