Are Video Games bad for your brain? You would probably say “yes,” but have you looked into the possibility that video games could be good? People have been saying video games make people dumb and some violent games can turn kids violent. But can’t they be good for you in some way?
Studies have showed that preschoolers who play physical video games like Wii,Wii Fit, Wii Sports and all those similar, have been shown to be better at kicking, catching and throwing than the preschoolers who have not been playing video games. A study in Boston showed that surgeons who played video games were 27% faster and made 37% fewers errors.Video games are shown to help a few parts of the brain including the frontal lobe, which is the part of the brain that gives you the ability to make decisions. People who played action based games are 25% faster than others and no less accurate. According to another study it was found that the best gamers can make a decision and act upon them 6 times a second; which is 4 times faster than most people. Yet another study by college students showed that experienced gamers can pay attention to 6 things at once without getting confused compared with the 4 things people can keep in mind. There is also evidence that Video games can help with psychology problems. A scientist asked people with depression problems to play a video game called SPARX and many of them showed reduced depression. Another research team showed that playing Tetris shortly after a sad moment can actually prevent people from having horrible flashbacks. But video games aren’t always good. They can be bad. A research team found that violent games alter brain function within weeks of playing; affecting the part of the brain that controls emotion and causes anger. In the future we may see doctors treating people with depression with video games. After reading the evidence; what do you think? Are video games good?
